John Jung chose a simpler narrative style that completely complements and befits his main character, Joseph Shepard, who remained virtually anonymous despite his contributions to world events that changed and influenced humanity. Through courageous travel, innovative medicine, and bloody battles; friendships, betrayals, and even a poetic love story intertwined, you won't be able to put this novel down. This superbly written historical novel has something for everyone and will leave your heart and mind both challenged and warmed.
This book will draw you in immediately...the main character interacts with, and influences some of our world's greatest minds throughout his journey; with almost a Forest Gump-like luck!! It truly had me wondering if Joseph Shepherd could have really existed! All of the characters encountered along the way are very interesting; and the premise of a single man capable of shaping history with no expectation, or desire, to be recognized for his brilliance, is humbling. Worth the read! Also...the authors name alone sold me! Nice to see another John Jung is out there!
