A Simple Case of Seduction Adele Clee 9780995570535 Books

I have read many of Adele Clee's books and enjoyed all of them. All are on my "Keeper shelf".

The hero and heroine of In A Simple Case of Seduction, Daniel Thorpe and Daphne Chambers, were introduced in a prior book- The Secret To Your Surrender. Having already delighted in reading The Secret To Your Surrender, I was pleased to see Daphne and Daniel again and read their own story in A Simple Case of Seduction, which can be enjoyed as a standalone book.

Daniel and Daphne are enquiry agents who solve crimes against the aristocracy in Regency England. Daphne proves herself to be intelligent, capable, and strong-willed as the only female enquiry agent in Regency England, due to very dangerous conditions inherent to the job. Daniel presents himself to the world as a very brusque, talented and sharp-witted man who never shows his feelings.

Daphne and Daniel have known each other for years but have avoided each other after she refuses Daniel's marriage proposal. However, when Daniel offers to help her catch an unknown but dangerous killer who is stalking her, she accepts his assistance. In working closely together, their past feelings for each other become stronger, both in passion as well as love.

As always, Adele Clee has delivered a FANTASTIC story of love, passion, danger and mystery. This is one of my FAVORITE books of hers and kept me up all night just to finish!

A Simple Case of Seduction Adele Clee 9780995570535 Books Reviews

Great plot line thick with intrigue, suspense, and a "bad guy" I never saw coming. A great strong lead heroine devoid of the typical ninny-headedness so often found in romance novels. A perfect match for the strong hero character.

My personal hang up- the love scenes could been written with much more finesse. Each time it would begin with such heartfelt moments, a beautiful coming together of such a perfectly matched H/h... Yet each time unfortunately quickly devolved into just crassly described rutting more suited to a brothel scene. I'm not squeamish about sex scenes, but these just didn't suit. These characters deserved better.

It was truly that big of a deterrent for me that it brought what should have been a five-star book down to a three-star rating. I really wanted to love this book, but was so letdown by the love scenes. I'll perhaps give Ms. Clee another try in a year or two to see if her writing evolves. Such a shame since the rest of the story was so artfully written!

If you're not deterred by crass sex scenes though, you'll absolutely love this book. Just wanted to give a heads up to those who prefer a more tasteful love scene.
I loved the fact that BOTH the hero and heroine were competent, independent and highly intelligent. Daphne Chambers, a widow, did not resort to marrying (again) to solve her lack of income. Instead, she became a private investigator (enguiry agent) and defied societal expectations of what a woman could be. I have no idea if this was realistic for the Regency period, but I thoroughly enjoyed the premise. Daniel Thorpe, with whom she was paired in her latest investigation, was remote, controlled and quite logical. Watching him learn to love and trust was very satisfying. Equally satisfying was the solution to the mystery behind Daphne's husband's murder three years earlier.
Wonderful story, interesting characters, and finally, romance that manages to be steamy and woman-positive at the same time. I loved that she was described as being fuller in her figure and assertive in what she wanted out of a relationship. This story would not be yet another moony female despairing of ever capturing the attention of the brooding suitor, but marrying him nonetheless. This is a story about a woman that is determined to write her own future. To write a character like that and still be in keeping historically with the norms of the past is incredibly impressive, and it points to intelligence and creativity not often seen in romance novels. Finally, it is NOT a pg-13 sort of story (thank goodness!). I am an adult, and I prefer romances with realistic, sexy and descriptive love scenes. What keeps me coming back to this writer is that she manages to write sexy scenes that are never walk that consent line. All of her heroes seek explicit consent. I am a HUGE fan of this author now and am steadily devouring all of her books.
To get to the bottom of a mystery, Daniel and Daphne team up in this new novel filled with suspense, plot twists & turns and hidden secrets. Will they discover the secrets or will the secrets find them first? And what about love? I highly recommend this captivating novel and all novels by this fabulous author, especially 'The Brotherhood Series' and the 'Anything for Love' Series.
I always enjoy Adele Clee books. I like her style of writing & her character development. I like & root for her characters & always enjoy the mystery/crime-solving elements. This book is no exception. I even went back & read The Secret of Your Surrender again when I realized that's where we first saw Daniel & Daphne interact. This one was hard to put down & I didn't find that I was guessing the obvious ending like I do in a lot of romances that include a mystery.
This is the first book I have read by this author, and I was very pleasantly surprised. Although I suspected the main characters in this novel had appeared in prior books (and I was correct), that did not interfere with my enjoyment of this unusual regency romance, with some mystery thrown in. The female lead was not an 18 year old, she was more mature, had her own mind, and would not be cowed by the male lead, who turned out to be quite worth her company. I enjoyed the characters so much, I got the prior books in which these characters first appeared, and recommend this very highly!
